I know these are intended for boys at a certain age but even so, just a little too much for our taste. Very simple juvenile humor. I'm not trying to sound like an idiot here but after reading five with my kid we both decided they weren't interesting enough.

I have a 5 year old who has a hard time getting over things that don't go his way. I was glad to try a book that might suggest options to him without them coming from me - as he is often resistant to my suggestions. No miracles but I think we might try reading it every week or more and see how things sink in now that he's in kindergarten. The pictures are fun and inviting to turn the next page.

Excellent Lesson: You Have the Power to Make Your own Mood.

I read this book today to a group of 9 and 10 year old children. They laughed at all the pictures and really got the message. The photographer/author managed to capture human emotions on his animal subjects and apply everyday blue situations to the frustrated and sad photos and great alternatives to the humorously positive photos. The message to empower people to change a blue day and make it a good one by doing positive activities to cheer yourself up is good for all ages. It is simply stated and beautifully depicted with amazing photographs. I had as much fun watching the kids ooing, ahing, and laughing as the kids did. Good message, fun to read, fun to see.
Caution: There is a sister book called "The Blue Day Book" which is more adult in nature. It's topics include work situations and mating. It wouldn't be appropriate for young children. The Blue Day Book for kids is great for any age.

A Family Favorite!

My children (ages 7 and 4) stumbled across this book at our favorite bookstore recently, and I can't say enough about the smiles and cheer it has brought them. I now plan to buy this book as a gift for every child I know (and even a few adults). Adorable black and white photos have managed to capture our animal friends in the most peculiar poses, opening wonderful dialog opportunities in our family. Even if you aren't "blue" this book will elevate the mood of anyone, any age. It's destined to be a favorite for many families.

(For the record, this is my first Amazon review. I usually don't post reviews, although I do write them professionally. When I noticed this book had no shopper reviews yet, I couldn't help but share my opinion with viewers. If you're wondering whether or not this book is a keeper, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love it! Enjoy!)

About the Author
Jennifer Dawson grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in psychology. She met her husband at the public library while they were studying. To this day she still maintains she was NOT checking him out. Now, over twenty years later, they’re married and living in a suburb right outside of Chicago with two awesome kids and a crazy dog.

Long overdue redemption of a hero who repeatedly hurt the heroine with OW ....

Having really enjoyed all three previous books in this series, it pains this NetGalley reviewer to admit this one felt off the mark. Mainly because I had issues with the hero’s past character/moral compass and the heroine’s judgment. It was hard to feel sympathy for Evan, who was with lots of other girls, starting as a teen, even while supposedly being in love and fooling around with the heroine, Penelope, in the family basement. Yes, you guessed it. She became his dirty little secret. You see, Pen was a close family friend who was more like an adopted family member. She made the mistake of meeting Evan downstairs, after the midnight hour, for late night chats/eventual make-up sessions, all while he was taking full advantage of the groupie cheerleaders who offered themselves up to him due to his high school football status. They both kept quiet about it. Yes, she knew about his other girlfriends. So shame on her, as well.

I also didn’t get how dearly beloved/soon departed, dear old dad pulled Evan aside and lectured him about giving up Pen (when he accidentally saw them together) because his upcoming NFL career was going to lead to even more random girls. Where was a stern talking to about becoming a real man by respecting women/not using them and respecting himself enough not to continue to be a man whore? At least an “I expect better from you, son” speech was in order. You would think this strong knit family would have wanted to instill their family values upon Evan. If nothing else, lecture him about unwanted pregnancies and STDs. No, he seemed to get a pass, because he was destined to live the life of a football player, on and off the field, and all its unavoidable entitlements…money and loose women.

Not surprisingly, he dumps Pen after being her first and flaunts/parades other women in front of her for years. Again, Dad, thanks for nothing! We are supposed to buy into his excuse he sincerely thought it was for her own good. When he finally does make a permanent play for Pen, she’s supposed to be consoled by the fact he always thought of her while being intimate with countless supermodels/bimbos. Oh, isn’t that sweet…not! Even going so far as to tell her specifics about one of his multiple person sexcapades (because he needed to get the guilt off his chest). Yeah, that play/decision didn’t work out so well for him, folks.

So we, along with his family and friends, are supposed to feel sorry for him because he can no longer play football due to a concussion. I say it was too bad he wasn’t kicked in the groin instead, my romance book loving friends. Maybe a blow to the family jewels would remind him of the concept of karma. As much as I liked Pen’s feistiness and determination not to be hurt by Evan again, I found myself thinking she could have used a knock to her noggin a time or two to bring her to her senses, as well. Though she would often verbally put him in his place, she was always too quick to forgive him, because, after all, he was so hot and under her skin.

Being the good girl she is, Pen does swallow her pride/pain and tries to rescue Evan from himself, since his family has been unsuccessful. We learn he has always loved her, partly because she wasn’t attracted to him just because of his football skills. But apparently not enough to give up his groupies, huh?

Yes, there was tons of angst…lots of chemistry/very steamy scenes…a hero who is honestly, sincerely, desperately redeeming himself…a family who doesn’t even want them together due to his past pattern of behavior and self-centeredness…a feisty heroine who becomes so insecure in her worry about the same notions she keeps pushing him away…The ending result was a rather exhausting read without any significant dramatic events to push it along.

Here’s to hoping you can forgive and forget better than this reviewer. I’m still holding a grudge, against him and dear old dad. I’m glad Pen got her HEA though and the hero is no longer a player. I have a feeling Shane, Evan’s older brother, will make certain it stays that way. Otherwise, he won’t have any qualms about using his fists, not just words, to protect Pen.

2 stars – This one wasn’t a good fit for me. H has a TSTL moment that lasts 15 years during which time he hooks up with lots of OW and makes sure h sees him. H did have his epiphany that h was ‘the one’ but I couldn’t buy it since his f’up lasted 15 years. If he had been a dbag for a year or two while he got over his issues I might have been able to get on board with this story.

I cannot get enough of this series and I binge-read it when I'm looking for a sexy pick-me-up. Ms. Dawson has a knack for combining tortuous angst and off-the-charts sexual tension in a way that keeps a reader hooked and coming back for more, and every book just gets better.

Can two people who were each other's first love, first heartbreak and first everything find their way back to each other through the secrets and distance that have built a wall between them?

Penelope Watkins fell in love with her best friend's brother when she was six and he was her first, but only for one night and then he shattered her heart. For fifteen years, they have kept their distance from each other, but now she is the only one that can reach him.

Evan Donovan just lost the only thing that defined him: his football career and his family is concerned about his well-being but no one can reach him, except Penelope. She challenges and excites him in every way, and he can't go back to their previous frosty relationship any more.

Honestly, Evan was a man-whore that did not deserve Penelope, but underneath that is the teenager who believed his father when he told him that he was only good for football, the boy who never had a chance to mend his relationship with his father and who has always felt like an outsider in his own family.

Penelope is a champion at her job, but when it comes to her personal life she's very insecure and has always been, but she hides it under a very competent facade. Both of them are very complicated and sometimes frustrating characters, struggling with unresolved hurts and trust issues, but Evan redeemed himself by fighting for Penelope and giving her the space she needed to deal with her own issues and trust that he would always be there for her.

AS GOOD AS NEW is passionate, humorous and delightful, with snappy dialogue and I loved catching up with the couples from the previous books. I hope that we get Sam, Sophie and Charlie's stories soon.

Great text for NC 7th grade Math

We're homeschooling our 12 yr old for the first time this year and I needed a Math text that was simple enough for me to understand yet not so easy my son would be bored. I had used another Math text written by Lial for a college level class and was very impressed. This text explains concepts and procedures in simple language and has numerous examples to use. I would recommend buying the accompanying Solutions Manual too. I have had up to college level Calculus and my son has been in public school for 6 yrs so we may have a little stronger Math background than others, but I do think most homeschooling parents would be able to use this book successfully. The concepts are written simply and have a lot of explanations and helpful hints in the "Note" boxes. Example: Purple Note box: "One way to remember which symbol to use is that the "smaller end of the symbol" points to the "smaller number (number that is less). 1 < 4, 0 > -3.
Very practical information and strategies to memorize steps. We'll be getting into Factoring soon (ugh!) and this text breaks it down so that even I can enjoy it.

I have been below average in Math for most of my life but thanks to Prealgebra by Blair, Tobey and Slater my grade went up considerably. I managed to maintain a B average thanks to this comprehensive and easy to follow book. It set a steady foundation for me. Thanks

It's Math

I am taking in online class and this was the required text book. It worked well for someone basically trying to learn this on her own. It give a lot of examples and lot's or practice problems. The only problem is, unless you have the teachers addition you won't know if your doing the practice problem correctly.

This edition is supposed to have a code to get into: MyMathLab. An online course area that will tell you your doing it wrong, give you lots of practice, give hints, show videos and show pages of textbook to help you learn. My copy did not have this for some reason and I had to buy it on my own.
