Short Story

I received this ebook free from the author through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. This is a short story about two very human and emotionally damaged individuals who become romantically involved. I would like to see the author develop each of the characters more. I had so many questions at the end and felt disappointed. I felt like I was missing something and that I didn’t know enough about the characters. Hopefully the author will continue to develop Finn and Lexi as she writes more books in the Harmony Springs series.

Good story but I felt like I was missing something

Fly Me to the Moon was a low 3 star for me. I liked Klasky's writing style but the story wasn't fleshed out the way I would have liked.
Initially, I fell right in to the story. The pace was good and the character set up was intriguing. Finn is suffering from PTSD and the loss of a friend and fellow soldier. Lexi was severely burned in a fire when she was a kid and is still unable to let people see her scars. She can't even have candles in her store in order to sell them. Finn and Lexi have big issues that play a big part in the story; however, the story plays out so quickly (about a week) that it didn't lend to fleshing out their situations to a believable conclusion. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a romance that happens in a week or even insta-love, as long as I can believe it. I just couldn't believe it here. Lexi has these deep seated issues yet the ramifications of them didn't seem to mesh with her actions. Finn's actions were a little more believable and I liked what he ended up doing about them. I think I need a few more chapters on Lexi.
Overall, I liked the writing and would check out other works by Klasky but I ended the story feeling like I was missing something that could have made it great.

Short, sweet, but with a punch of emotion

I have read several books by this author but I was wholly unprepared for how much of an emotional impact this story would pack. It's a short read and the romantic leads only meet at the start but it didn't feel rushed and it felt longer than it was. Both Lexi and Finn have issues that they need to overcome and it was lovely to see the difficulty they each had and how they could see aspects of themselves in each other.

I really enjoyed this story and loved the backdrop of Harmony Springs so much. I'm excited that this is the first in a new series and I can hardly to read more stories set here. I will also be delving into more of the author's books soon.

This wonderful book provides a compelling narrative of the historical and philosophical roots of inclusive education and contextualizes that history in a framework of social justice and critical pedagogy. Part 1 provides a historical perspective on exceptionality, including a nice chapter describing conceptions of exceptionality during biblical times and additional chapters focusing on legal developments and the genesis of exceptionality as a legitimate academic discipline. Part 2 begins with an overview of Western philosophical thought and its various connections to the study of exceptionality. Two important chapters focus on the study of exceptionality within a framework of social justice and the author's recommendations for utilizing that framework to advance the discipline and improve practice. Curiously, Shyman (Dowling College) makes only brief mention of how critical theory has been and continues to be employed in the theoretical study of exceptionality as well as applied innovations to improve practice. Readers would benefit from some foundational knowledge of critical theory concepts such as hegemony and the hidden curriculum. Overall, this is a wonderful book of great value to scholars of exceptionality as well as advanced practitioners. Summing Up: Recommended.
