I have never laughed so hard in my life. Oh this was so very well done and to have each novella be just a bit more clever, just a bit smarter than the one before, I was besotted! I highly recommend Damned If You Do (the complete collection) by JL Merrow. Fast-paced, witty, and intelligently written, this work is a feast of literary delights - 5 stars for Damned if You Do, the Complete Collection, Sammy, Reviews by Jessewave��I have to say that every single one of these novellas was fun, funny, entertaining, hotter than hell in the sex department and just all around great stories...Rael and Lars are perfect together. Lars is willing to put his job at stake to keep Rael and though Rael always finds himself in a bit of trouble it all gets worked out. I loved their easygoing relationship and all its little quirks...Four great stories that I definitely recommend - 4/5 for Damned if You Do, the Complete Collection, Tracy, Tracy's Place�I want MORE Rael and MORE Lars! Their adventures are funny, sexy, and a heap of fun - 5 sweet peas for Damned if You Do, the Complete Collection, Lucky, Mrs Condit & Friends

Short, but a decent read.

Mostly I'm writing this review to give a location count: 682 for the actual story, and another 60 locations of previews for additional books. Very short, and I didn't do my homework by going to Torquere and checking the word count there as I should have, so I am reviewing this title based on enjoyability, rather than price.

That said, I did enjoy this story. The characters were reasonably well developed given how short it was. Don't expect to learn their favorite dinner dishes or all of their childhood traumas, but you do get a bit of a feel for who each of them are. Honestly, I thought that the partner of the cop was the most interesting character in the story. XD
I thought this author did an really fantastic job with Camwolf, and though this was a good, quick read, I can't wait to see more of her longer stories.

Their is a sequel available, which I have not purchased, but this is based more on the price than on the merit of the writing. It is on my list for some day when I get a nice gift card for a birthday or Christmas!

a fun supernatural confection, but ...

Merrow writes really, really well. The story moved at a good pace and followed logically. The pair who connect made sense together. The dialogue was a pleasure to read, as each character had his or her own voice.

But ... Merrow acknowledges one character is an incubus, but then everyone including this character refers to him as a succubus for the rest of the tale. There is also a bit of that ridiculous "Want you ..." dialogue (no personal pronoun) that is a peeve of mine; I only know it to exist in romance books, and consequently, it yanks me right out of the story.

So after percolating on the book for a while, the part that bothered me most was that Merrow, and one of her characters, grossly confused and conflated a few kinds of gay/bi men, and engaged in offensive stereotype of bi men. There are 1) Men who are in profound denial and think they are straight and do what is expected of them and marry women ... but then figure out their sexuality and bail. Sucks for the women, but at least there was no conscious deception or malice on they part of the guys. 2) Men who know they are gay, but are deeply closeted and partner with women for cover, but then bail from the relationship later. (Boo, hiss.) 3) Bi men who happen to be in relationships with women, but then fall for someone else (this time a guy) and bail. Merrow even has this character say specifically that she cannot abide men who "claim to be one thing when they are another, who can't make up their minds ..." This is the classic offensive stereotype of bisexuals. But anyone can fall out of love. Anyone can cheat. No particular orientation is marked by a penchant for being fickle or unfaithful.

So I'm barely giving the book a "pass" because it could just be the character's confusion and bias, and because the writing was otherwise so tight. I really hate giving a "meh" mark due to content problems, when an author clearly writes very well (but so many in this genre can't).

Beth Cooperman is an Associate Professor of Finance and the Program and Discipline Director for Finance at The Business School at the University of Colorado at Denver. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Her research articles have appeared in The Journal of Finance, Financial Management, Review of Economics and Statistics, Real Estate Economics, The Journal of Financial Services Research and other leading finance journals. She is a past president of the Midwest Finance Association, and did an externship with Colorado Business Bank in Denver.

What is a lesbian story? The question is not academic; criticism of the traditional literary canon includes the charge that contemporary readers ascribe their own views to texts from other times and cultures. Koppelman, who has edited two other anthologies of short stories, acknowledges the problem, and instead of attempting to prove that these stories are lesbian, relies more heavily on the "feel" of stories that range from the explicit to inferentially lesbian. In her preface she notes, "I recognize these stories as stories about women loving women in the variety of romantic ways that we wouldn't even have to struggle to define if we were talking about men and women loving each other." Koppelman provides the historical and literary context for 11 stories by Constance Fenimore Woolson, Octave Thanet, Mary E. Wilkins, Kate Chopin and Sarah Orne Jewett that were originally published in periodicals of their time. Entertaining in their own right, the works (largely mysteries, riddles or ghost stories) also disprove any continued skepticism about the quality of works by women or about women's relationships of this period.

This collection describes romantic attachments between women. The subject would not be extraordinary had the stories not been written in the late 19th century by some of the most respected American authors, including Mary Wilkins Freeman, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, and Sarah Orne Jewett. Lesbian love was not a conventional theme of 19th-century American literature and had to be muted in these stories. Thus, Phelps writes about a woman torn between being fulfilled in the spiritual realm after she leaves her body and being separated from her one true love, the woman mourning beside her casket, in "Since I Died." Writer/historian Koppelman (May Your Days Be Merry and Bright, NAL/Dial, 1991) carefully documents the professional and personal lives of these authors to put their work in literary and historical perspective. Most important, she decodes elements and symbols in the stories that were popular in the 19th century but might be unfamiliar to contemporary readers. This exceedingly important contribution to the study of women's history and lesbian literature in America is highly recommended for academic and large public libraries.

Editor Koppelman's former collections focused on old maids, southern women, and adultresses. Here her subject is lesbians. Koppelman posits that lesbian stories--i.e., stories about "non-Platonic love between women"--originated in the U.S. during the post-Civil War early women's rights period, before "love relationships between women were being pathologized." All but one of these 11 stories were first published in nineteenth-century periodicals; some have not been reprinted since, others only in altered versions. In generous prefaces to each story, Koppelman details the piece's history, relating it to the author's body of work and her life. Besides those forewords, her general introduction is likely to become a primary citation in the history of the origins of the lesbian story in American literature. Okay stoies

I couldn't really get into this book. While their are stories that I would consider lesbian stories like My Visitation by Rose Terry there some like My Lorelei by Alice French aka Octave Thanet that I think Susan Koppelman mistake as a lesbian story.

There couple Felipa by Constance Woolson and Two Friends by Mary Wilkins that I personally couldn't get into.

This book is n academic review about whether or not the ordination of women should be allowed in the Seventh-Day Adventist church. The debate on this issue is that the bible does not say that woman should not be ordained, but rather is silent on this matter. So this is a good read to get balanced view on this hot topic subject for a better understanding.

Needed knowledge

Just a quick note about this book, 'The Kitchen Table Book'. I'm one who grew up with a grandmother, that was raised in the country and in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Dr's were either not available or came at a premium. Hence, a lot of 'cures' came from home remedies and basic nutrition. This book shows in detail the benefits from the foods and spices we normally consume. It fits very well with what my grandmother was raised with and what she imparted to us along the way. It is the kind of book that should be on every kitchen table and followed as to daily nutrition. By utilizing the knowledge found in these pages, one should be able to reduce the need for doctor visits, with the exception of catastrophic events. By understanding the health benefits for the various foods, most people should be able to maintain good health without the use of supplements and multiple, doctor-prescribed medications. This book is a great guide towards that goal.

I bought two copies of this book, one for my daughter and one for myself. From the very first page you'll be hooked in; there are surprising therapeutic uses for pretty much every staple you have in your pantry and fridge. I took the time to research several of the items that were recommended and found substantial documentation to back up the recommendations, medical abstracts & studies etc. I am not a fan of books that pimp supplements or vits or certain alleged superfoods that are based on he-said/she-said non-factual hype. You can rely on what you read here and put it to use to make yourself & your family healthier, happier. HIGHLY recommended~

It is full of uses for common items that you would have around the home or could buy at the supermarket. A wealth of information on how to cure common ailments with everyday household items. Grandma knew best and this is some of that wisdom from yesteryear.

The utilities of alpha-aminophosphonates as peptide mimics, haptens of catalytic antibodies, enzyme inhibitors, inhibitors of cancers, tumours, viruses, antibiotics and pharmacologic agents are well documented. Alpha-Hydroxyalkanephosphonates are compounds of significant biological and medicinal applications. Dialkyl epoxyalkylphosphonates are of interest because of their use as intermediates in the synthesis of bioactive substances, and as modifiers of natural and synthetic polymers. Bisphosphonates are drugs that have been widely used in different bone diseases, and have recently been used successfully against many parasites. Poly(alkylene H-phosphonate)s and poly(alkylene phosphate)s are promising, biodegradable, water soluble, new polymer-carriers of drugs. Nucleoside H-phosphonates seem to be the most attractive candidates as starting materials in the chemical synthesis of DNA and RNA fragments. The 5’-hydrogen phosphonate-3’-azido-2’,3’-dideoxythimidine is one of the most significant anti-HIV prodrug, which is currently in clinical trials.

About the Author
Kolio Dimov Troev completed his undergraduate work at Higher Institute of Chemical Technology, Sofia; received his doctorate in the field of organophosphorus chemistry in 1974 from the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with Prof. Georgy Borissov; and was awarded the scientific degree “Doctor of Science” in 1985 from the Institute of Polymers. In 1988, he became Professor of Chemistry at the same Institute. He has been the founding head of the laboratory “Phosphorus-containing monomers and polymers” since 1989. His research interests are the areas of organophosphorus chemistry, especially esters of H-phosphonic acid; aminophosphonates; biodegradable, biocompatible phosphorus-containing polymers; polymer conjugates; drug delivery systems. He has been a visiting professor/lecturer in the USA (Marquette University, Tulane University), Japan (Tokyo Institute of Technology, University of Tokyo, Tohoku University, Tokyo University of Science), and Germany (Duesseldorf University). He is the author of more than 150 papers in this field published in the Phosphorus, Sulfur, Silicon and Related Elements, Heteroatom Chemistry, Journal of American Chemical Society, European Polymer Journal, Polymer, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Macromolecular Rapid Communication, Polymer Degradation and Stability, Journal of Polymer Science, Part A: Polymer Chemistry, European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Amino Acids, Tetrahedron Letters, Macromolecules, and RSC Advances. He is also the author of two other Elsevier books, Chemistry and Application of H-phosphonates (2006) and Polyphosphoesters: Chemistry and Application (2012).
He was a director of the Institute of Polymers, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from November 2003 to February 2012.

Be aware that this is not from USA

I returned this book because all of the financial information is in foreign currency and is based on the economy found in a different part of the world. Although the concepts in this book may be relevant, for me the budgeting and costs are an essential part of what I needed to learn, so I felt this was inappropriate for me. I gave it 4 stars because I didn't want to criticize it - it may be good for those in other parts of the world, but I just wanted to let people in the USA to be alerted to this issue so they know what they're getting.
