A well-written and intriguing play -- nice work, Jesse!

Simply put, this is a beautiful play. Jesse Eisenberg has a good ear for dialogue and seems to have a solid understanding of the human mind and heart (which doesn't surprise me as Eisenberg is an actor). His characters are real people, their interactions are authentic, and the story forces the reader to think. I love a writer -- or an artist, really -- who doesn't spoon-feed his/her audience, who asks the audience to do a bit of work, and Jesse is certainly one such artist. I admire him for that.

Okay, I'm Madeline's dad. You gotta know that this took a huge amount of effort to clarify the mysterious world of wine into graphics that take mere seconds to understand. I couldn't be more proud. It's a lot of fun forcing on it friends and then seeing them light up with instant understanding. The page that explains how to write useful personal wine notes, for example, instantly organizes the way you do your evaluations of wine.

Such a lovely and well thought out book. The format provides you with building blocks for a better understanding of wine, wine regions, tasting profiles, the storage of wine, food pairings and the book includes flavor wheels for pretty much every varietal you can think of. This is definitely wine novice-friendly guide in that you can skim it for as much info as you care to know... but it's also a great reference for a true aficionado who wants to dig deeper or use it as a quick reference or review. The graphics make the presentation of info easy to grasp and fun to read, and the content is well written. I really like the phonetic help with some of the regions - "Blaufr�nkisch" wasn't exactly part of my vocabulary before. Using it in a sentence will be MUCH easier now that I have this book. :D

Don't miss the glossary of terms in the back - and the index! Definitely going to get a few more copies for holiday gifts this year.

A mulligan stew with a few choice chunks

The problem with Revolution and Other Essays is that there's too little "Revolution" and far too much "Other". This collection is a hodgepodge of Jack London's early nonfiction writings, in which he waxes poetic on subjects various and diverse, among them architecture ("The House Beautiful"), globalization ("The Shrinkage of the Planet"), literature (Maxim Gorky in "Fom� Gordy�eff" and Rudyard Kipling in "These Bones Shall Rise Again"), zoopsychology ("The Other Animals"), and the rise of Asia as a world power ("The Yellow Peril"). Uncharacteristic of London, the majority of these pieces are written in rather decorative prose, adorned with flowery language and gratuitous literary references. Even diehard fans of London will find most of these essays too esoteric in subject matter and too antiquated in style to be considered a necessary read.

Fortunately, a few worthy pieces redeem this volume and elevate it to the realm of readability. The title piece, "Revolution", is a state-of-the-union address for socialism in the year 1905. It serves as a stirring call to arms to the world's 7,000,000 comrades, and a warning to the uninitiated that the revolt of the working class is imminent. "What Life Means to Me" is a mini-manifesto of London's political thought. In it he provides an abbreviated autobiography charting his gradual transformation from a naive child with grand illusions to an educated socialist confronting the hypocrisy of a capitalist society. The only piece of fiction in this volume is a masterful short story entitled "Goliah". "The Somnambulists" and "The Dignity of Dollars" will also be of value to those with a fervent interest in London's politics, but if you're looking for a really good collection of London's political writings, I would suggest War of the Classes.
