Amazing.

Walk In My Shoes is a touching novel about a girl and her family that lived in Pakistan and have immigrated to Australia. Australia is everything they have ever dreamed of. But after two years in refugee camp, and many unwelcome surprises, it seems they have lost hope.

Touching, amazing and the true side of what is actually happening to Pakistani refugees in Australia. Walk In My Shoes really makes you feel as if you are walking in the shoes of an Pakistani refugee.

Every Australian of reading age should read this book

Walk in my Shoes is about a Pakistani refugee family who arrive in Australia after going through a circuitous, arduous and dangerous journey. When they arrive they are full of hope and believe they are finally safe. However, the family is immediately placed in a detention centre out in the desert where they linger for almost two years before being released. The loss of hope, the anguish and pain this family suffers while they try to prove to the Australian government that they are indeed refugees is excrutiating.

The reading age of this book is 9-12 years but is suitable for all age groups and I would recommend it as essential reading not only for school children but for all Australians. It is difficult not to feel deep compassion for those people who have suffered so terribly in their own countries and have come to Australia (even if they have by-passed the legal channels).

It gives another perspective to the refugee debate quite differnet from the government's stance and is likely to produce a public outcry about the way refugees are being treated in Australia. Indeed as the protagonist of the novel points out - why if we weren't refugees would we come to Australia on such dangerous unseaworthy boats? Terrorists are never going to travel this way.

For decades, health care providers have worked as though there were a monolithic wall dividing the ailments of the mind from those of the body. Theorists on either side developed separate languages and philosophies to explain symptoms. This distinction has left many clinicians unable to treat successfully patients whose symptoms - such as headaches, conversion paralysis, and seizures - arise from the place where mind and body meet. In this book, the authors describe a powerful narrative therapy, one that relies on the wisdom and everyday language of patients' real-life stories instead of the expert knowledge and professional language of the clinician. This approach can be used across all categories of somatic symptoms, from factitious ones to medical illnesses such as asthma or migraine headaches. The authors show how somatic symptoms are often related to unspeakable dilemmas, as in the case of a child who, after discovering a parent's marital infidelity, is afraid to disclose the secret and begins having blackout spells for which a neurologist can find no physiological basis. These dilemmas can be understood only if a clinician creates the kind of relationship in which privately held stories of fear, shame, and threat can be told safely. I read this book as an undergraduate for the fun of it. As a PhD student in psychology, I realized I had to add it back into my library after loaning it out. This is a definite must have to any conscious therapists bookshelves!

This book points out some very important conection in a very understandable way, both for professionals and non - professionals. It takes out some very common symptoms and illnesses and points out possible connections between body and mind which should indeed be common knowledge among all health professionals

Disappointment

The book is simplistic and written primarily for someone interested in using sights to shoot a slingshot and has very little useful information on shooting instinctively, and even from the perspective of shooting with sights had little to offer and is only presented on the use of starship type slingshots. In addition, the videos that are offered and hyped as an adjuct to the purchase and are referenced in the book for learning purposes were not accessible. Contact with the author was useless. He never had the courtesy of responding or trying to offer assistance. I would not recommend the book to anyone.

Excellent A+++++ . Tips, tricks and techniques! What more can you ask for ?

Folks, this is a must read for anyone interested in the world of slingshooting.
I would probably consider this an A-Z guide to slingshooting. A very well written book on making, techniques, practice and a bonus section on Tournament shooting which covers the ECST. Kenny himself is a great shot and to see him come out with something like this and share his experiences is incredible.

What makes this book unique is the fact that each chapter is supported by a video easily accessible on the net. A great visiual tool to better grasp the concepts.
An excellent job very and very well laid out. A progressive learning tool to the world of slingshooting.

As an avid shooter,maker and collector of Slingshots for over 50 years, I always get excited when someone writes something about my favorite hobby! This book is written in a manner that feels as if you are having a conversation with the author-free and easy is the way I'd put it.
Kenny is a really good shooter that has come far very fast. Slingshot Sniper is a good summation of what he has picked up to help make him an excellent shot.
He gives you straight forward tips on how to become a better shooter. He also backs up his tips and techniques with video.
A good read from a fellow slingshot shooter and good friend. Read it, start shooting better and have fun! Gary "Flatband" Miller

About the Author
Historian and award-winning author Don Nardo has written many books for young people about modern history, including studies of the rise of Hitler and Nazism, World War II, international terrorism, and dozens of military topics. In addition, he specializes in ancient history and has published numerous volumes about the histories and cultures of the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and peoples of Mesopotamia. Nardo, who also composes and arranges orchestral music, lives with his wife, Christine, in Massachusetts.

Nazi Death Camps...For Younger Readers!

Don Nardo's LIFE IN A NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMP is a factual account of life - and mostly death - in the various camps run by the Nazi regime. While it makes for horrifying reading, it is what happened long ago in Nazi Germany. And it is a useful introduction to the subject for younger readers, 6th grade and up.

After an introductory chapter on the rise of Nazism, Hitler's accession to power and the creation of the camps, Nardo relates camp life in chapters on 'Deportation and Arrival,' 'Housing, Food and Other Living Conditions,' 'Forced Labor and Other Inmate Exploitation,' 'Lurking Threats of Punishment and Death' and 'The Miracles of Survival and Liberation.' Nardo supplements his narrative by first-person reminiscences by camp survivors, which make for the most heart-wrenching reading.

The text is illustrated with vintage and contemporary b&w and color photographs and maps. Some of the images may be disconcerting to the intended audience...yet they record reality.

Serena Roney-Dougal, PhD has a psychology degree from University College, London and a PhD in parapsychology. We are separated from this potential omniscience by the thinnest of veils. In scientific terms this veil is call 'filter theory'. We would go totally crazy if we were aware of everything in the entire Universe even for only one second; so we need filters to block out all but the most essential items from our conscious awareness. Unfortunately this trend has gone too far, and the pressures of living in a city have made most city people so blocked that they aren't even aware of what their close friends and family are feeling, let alone whether or not some distant relative is in need of help. We have as a race become insensitive - or desensitised, mainly as a result of living in cities where the pressure of so many people and all their thoughts and emotions is so great that we have to blank out all but the most immediate perceptions or go totally crazy. So now we have to reverse the trend and become more aware, more sensitive, open up the filters a little bit, and open our psychic, as well as our physical, eyes and ears. This of course is easiest in the country! Some people call this process of increasing awareness 'becoming aware of the subconscious', since it is only in conscious awareness that we are so blocked, and the potential omniscience is all there in the subconscious. In becoming aware of the subconscious per se, we also tend to become aware of psychic information. This information is different from most subliminal information in that it was never physically present; we know something that we have never physically heard or seen or felt. The psychic information of which we become aware when we open up to the subconscious has come in by means other than our eyes or ears or other sense, possibly through the 'third eye'. In trying to understand this process by which psychic information is available I shall be travelling through some pretty strange waters. Thresholds and the subconscious Conscious experience is a very limited channel. We can, it is now accepted, be conscious of only about 7 things at any one time. Yet there are 10 thousand million neurones ........

Very Powerful Insights !!!

This very well researched book delves into everything from: Universal Patterns, PSI reasearch, Breaking down rituals to see why and how they work;
How our own PSI and Anti-PSI abilities affect the successful outcomes of our spells, meditations, prayers.
The psychological factors that either help or hinder our ability to affect our destinies.
She goes into theorize about the Pineal Gland is really the third eye, and how science backs this up. Overall a lot of research is presented here to tie in science(including Quantum Physics, magick, anthropology and parapsychology. Actually rather easy to read considering how much information is contained.
Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for some advanced information on working Magick!

Extraordinary Synthesis of Scientific & Occult Material

I read this book years ago, soon after it was published and was blown away by it's even-handed treatment of the material. In particular, the analysis of the pineal gland as the biological equivalent of the "third eye" is exceptional. Skeptics should "subject" themselves to this material which may transform their views and widen their perspective. A thoroughly well-written piece on the physical reality of magick in all of it's forms. I eagerly await Dougal's next work.

Excellent source material.

Where Science and Magic Meet is one of the source books I use for a survey class I occasionally teach. The book provides information from both a mystical and scientific perspective, without being too *airy-fairy* or b-o-r-i-n-g. I find it very useful as an introduction for folks with no background in the genre and who are skeptical of the idea that *Magick* works. She explains it beautifully.
