Surprise for my husband

This story was a second chance at love between two people who meet and separated years before. Tanya and Alejandro parted during an argument. He seemed to disappear. She learned that he had gone back home to marry the woman he told her he wasn't in love with and proceeds to have a child with. So she marries someone else. Now she is a widower and went to the island of his where her sisters now works. Will the past bring them together or separate them forever. Margaret Mayo is not a Harlequin either I am familiar with. But will check out more of her works later.

Excellent Guide to Learning

The core ideas in this book aren't dissimilar from those of older books, such as "How to Study" by Swain or "How to Read a Book" by Adler and Van Doren. The essence of the learning techniques isn't very different. This book places the techniques in a specific context, though: school, where the ultimate goal is to get good grades. It presents a strategy for implementing the techniques in a school setting with the joint goals of "maximum grades, optimum learning, minimum time."

I've seen some people complain that the techniques are too time-consuming. The author specifically addresses this problem: "This process is going to take us much longer to follow along than the actual thinking-involved took." In other words, once you practice and get used to the techniques, you won't need to do them explicitly...they will become automatic. In fact, I don't think it's possible to learn _at all_ if you aren't asking many of the questions that Robinson discusses. If you think it's too time-consuming, then you're basically admitting that learning is too time-consuming, at which point you should stop reading and reevaluate your priorities.

I was a senior in college when I picked up this book. I had survived my former years by mainly using techniques from Cal Newport's material, but reading this book, along with the books I mentioned earlier, provided me with a much clearer understanding of what learning is. Newport's books are definitely useful, being more immediately practical. But this book was more challenging and addressed the core problem of learning more directly.

If you want to learn how to learn, especially in a school setting, this book is a great guide. Taking the time to work through the book and struggling to apply the principles to your studies will pay off big time. It will start slow, but persistence will pay off as the material is internalized and becomes second nature. Then you will become an unstoppable learning machine.

Helped Me Extensively

I really like this book because not only did it provide various study tips, it also gave great examples of how to teach yourself. How to teach yourself multiple concepts, ranging from specific subjects to how to take notes from lectures v.s textbooks, etc. I feel my school did not focus on teaching students how to actually ask questions and search for the answers, but more on passing tests and searching for information that the teacher or school wanted to know. With the help of this book, I realized that you can't really understand or attempt to remember the purpose of the information if you don't know why it's relevant or important to know. After struggling my first semester in college simply because I didn't know how to teach myself, I decided I wasn't going to rack up thousands of dollars in student loans just to struggle and get average grades. So I gave this book a try because of the positive reviews and was really happy with my purchase. I use multiple study strategy or tip books as well in conjunction with this book and developed my own working methods. However, the majority of my most effective practices came from this book and I did benefit the most from it. Another thing I enjoyed about this read was it provided suggestions for improving your overall attitude about school and tips to help yourself actually enjoy it and whatever specific subject or task you don't like. If you find specific subjects boring this book can help you find ways to make them fun. If you don't want to put in the effort to be successful, you won't be! The narrator has a practical and frankly, blunt way of stating facts and explains the concepts clearly with a mildly humorous attitude. There are multiple, easy quizzes and exercises that I truly did find helpful, especially if you remain open minded and actually try your best. If you are really struggling with retaining information, reading dry textbooks (or highlighting every other word), having a hard time paying attention in class, or have other issues with school I highly recommend this product.

This book is really good in a sense a reader feels like the author is with him while reading. It talks about 12 principles of smart students and the benefits of cyberlearning which sounds really noteworthy, I took out one star because the book was written around 1994 which is 20 years ago. Current education system is anyway different than that time. The techniques presented in this book may be hard to apply in real practice as well as some of them tend to be time-consuming.

In the last book of the KIDNAPPED series, many things happen to the Falconer family. Meg has escaped and is trying to survive in the mountainous wilderness when a blizzard hits.

About the Author
George E. Rejda is a nationally known expert on private insurance and social insurance programs. He is a Past President of the American Risk and Insurance Association. His primary research areas are Social Security and unemployment insurance. He is a founding member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, initially limited to 125 experts on Social Security in the United States. He is the founding editor of "Benefits Quarterly" in the employee benefits field and also served as Communication and Notes editor for the "Journal of Risk and Insurance." He has published numerous books, articles, and other publications, several of which were used by the Insurance Institute of America in its professional program. He is a former member of the examination committee of the Insurance Institute of America, which designs and administers professional examinations to employees in the property and casualty insurance industry. His textbook, "Principles of Risk Management and Insurance," is widely used by colleges and universities throughout the United States. Rejda received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied risk and insurance as a Huebner Foundation Fellow in the Wharton School. He is a former member of the Administrative Board of the Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). During his career at UNL, he has taught more than 13,000 students.

Need Pickleball Strategy buy Smart Pickleball

I recently paid for one of Prem's clinics in Virginia. I mention "paying" because one thing I think makes Pickleball popular is the low cost to play. The clinic was my investment to learn more about how to "master" pickleball. If you have taken a clinic from Prem then I think this book is a must have. Reading its pages will take you right back to those 2 days you spent learning and drilling - and drilling and drilling and did I mention drilling :)

The lessons learned in the clinic are all here in the book. So unless you have perfect recall, you need this book.

WARNINGS: I am sure that Prem will agree with these few items that anyone considering this book should know:

1) It is not a "how to" or instructional guide. Prem mentions this in the intro and you need to be aware. There are other good books that do explain the basics - I personally have a copy of The Art of Pickleball

2) This book is about a "way" to play pickleball and not everyone is going to agree with the approach. Prem mentions this in his clinics and for some players you may use his ideas to complement your own. You may have your own strategies that work for you and you don't need to abandon them - although you may discover that your "strategies" are really bad habits.

3) There is no substitute for practice. Reading this book is a good first step but you need to get out on the court and practice (ie drill) to make marked improvements in your game. This is hard to do because everyone wants to PLAY not practice (insert comment from former NBA star Allen Iverson here). If there are practice fanatics here in VA, please look me up!

just the facts so if you want to make the best use of the advice offered

For anyone who is interested in improving their game, this book will help. There is some self-promotion throughout, but then again, we live in a marketing society. Even with this in mind, the book provides valuable insights into how to improve your game. There is little hand-holding here, just the facts so if you want to make the best use of the advice offered, you will need to get out and practice.

If practicing is not your thing, you can still make some progress by learning what to focus on while you are playing. What is the best way to serve? What is the best return of serve? Why is dinking necessary? These questions and more are answered.

The book takes a no nonsense approach to helping Pickleballers improve the way THEY play the game. It is well worth the read and getting the practice tips.

Very useful tips and drills

A great primer for newer players as well as a review for those with more experience. It covers the basic strategies and suggests drills that should help players adopt these techniques. Prem explains why his suggestions are effective.
Prem uses an interesting format, of guiding you through one of his weekend clinics. It is also compartmentalize into small digestible sections that can be studied and practiced by themselves.

All-in-all well worth your time.
